The INS report also presents data that shed light on the apparent decrease in illegal entrants to the United States in the early 1990s. According the data, the illegal alien entry rate decreased because the IRCA made it easier for the spouses of Mexican-born residents to obtain immigrant visas.

As a result they did not have to enter the United States illegally, though hundreds of thousands of others continued to illegally enter the United States. The Immigration Act of 1990 – passed under George H.W. Bush – increased the annual number of immigrant visas to the United States by more than 150,000 beginning in 1992.

The Egyptian Revolution, born in rapture and enthusiasm, now resembles Pandoras box. Hope sprang forth, but so did extremism, demagoguery, crime, disorder and fear. And no one has come up with a way to put them all back in the box.In the days of Hosni Mubarak, everyone knew the extremists lurked on the dark, outer fringes of Egyptian society, but most kept a low profile, were behind bars or holed up in Afghanistan or Pakistan. In the new Egypt, theyve come out of their cells and back from exile, and like Al-Gohary, rant on national television or make inflammatory speeches in Tahrir Square.

The court arguments submitted by the Obama administration came in an Ohio case this year. The White House argued against making allowances for members of the military.“President Obama’s lawsuit argued that providing special consideration for the unique challenges faced [by] members of the military by ensuring that they have every opportunity to vote is ‘entirely arbitrary’ and has ‘no legitimate justification’ in the law…” said a report from the American Center for Law and Justice. The organization said Ohio’s attorney general has decided to appeal the ruling that banned special accommodations, because it could have “far-reaching and disastrous effects on the voting rights of the men and women [in] our armed forces.”It was the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that said Ohio would not be allowed to provide members of the military three extra days to vote early.

Each month has had its own horror story, beginning with the news in June that gun-related deaths in Chicago had already surpassed troop deaths in Afghanistan for 2012. During the first three weeks of August 2012 there were more murders than there were in all of August 2011. And September saw weekends where nearly two dozen were shot and 6 were killed, and by October the murder rate for Chicago was 28% higher than it was the year before.

A school district in Texas came under fire earlier this year when it announced that it would require students to wear microchip-embedded ID cards at all times. Now, students who refuse to be monitored say they are feeling the repercussions.

Since October 1, students at John Jay High School and Anson Jones Middle School in San Antonio, Texas, have been asked to attend class with photo ID cards equipped with radio-frequency identification (RFID) chips to track every pupil’s location.

According to emails obtained by WikiLeaks, which is led by the embattled Julian Assange, Republican Senator John McCains 2008 presidential campaign staff allegedly had evidence that Democrats stuffed ballot boxes in Pennsylvania and Ohio on election night. However, the candidate chose not to pursue voter fraud, according to internal emails obtained from the private intelligence and analysis firm, Stratfor.Stratfor regularly reports on geopolitics, narcotics, security and terrorism, particularly overseas. The company, which was founded by George Friedman, has high-level subscribers including at least one former U.S. Secretary of State, various foreign governments, and intelligence agencies. The U.S. Marines and the Department of Homeland Security are also customers. In recent months, Stratfor was in the news because a still unknown party hacked the Stratfor website and obtained subscribers’ names.

In late December, the lot was just a big blank: a few burgundy metal shipping containers sitting in an expanse of crushed eggshell-colored gravel inside a razor-wire-topped fence. The American military in Afghanistan doesn’t want to talk about it, but one day soon, it will be a new hub for the American drone war in the Greater Middle East.

Next year, that empty lot will be a two-story concrete intelligence facility for America’s drone war, brightly lit and filled with powerful computers kept in climate-controlled comfort in a country where most of the population has no access to electricity. It will boast almost 7,000 square feet of offices, briefing and conference rooms, and a large “processing, exploitation, and dissemination” operations center — and, of course, it will be built with American tax dollars.

Nor is it an anomaly. Despite all the talk of drawdowns and withdrawals, there has been a years-long building boom in Afghanistan that shows little sign of abating. In early 2010, the U.S.-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) had nearly 400 bases in Afghanistan. Today, Lieutenant Lauren Rago of ISAF public affairs tells TomDispatch, the number tops 450.

The hush-hush, high-tech, super-secure facility at the massive air base in Kandahar is just one of many building projects the U.S. military currently has planned or underway in Afghanistan. While some U.S. bases are indeed closing up shop or being transferred to the Afghan government, and there’s talk of combat operations slowing or ending next year, as well as a withdrawal of American combat forces from Afghanistan by 2014, the U.S. military is still preparing for a much longer haul at mega-bases like Kandahar and Bagram airfields. The same is true even of some smaller camps, forward operating bases (FOBs), and combat outposts (COPs) scattered through the country’s backlands. “Bagram is going through a significant transition during the next year to two years,” Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Gerdes of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Bagram Office recently toldFreedom Builder, a Corps of Engineers publication. “We’re transitioning… into a long-term, five-year, 10-year vision for the base.”

Lt. Col. Daniel L. Davis spent most of last year on his second tour of Afghanistan; he was assigned to the Army’s Rapid Equipping Force. While carrying out his duties the Colonel talked to the troops about their situation in the region. He talked to everyone in any position as well as allies and Afghan security forces. He traveled over 9,000 miles and personally patrolled with ground troops in several provinces. Give credit to Co. Davis he saw the real situation up close and in person. His unclassified report to The Armed Forces Journal exposed that the situation on the ground is the total opposite what has been reported to the American Public.

Revelations

Col. Davis revealed that the situation in Afghanistan was not improving and that the security forces were nowhere near ready to fight against the Taliban. They lacked the will and courage to take the fight to the terrorists. The areas of the country that are not under the direct control of the Americans and theInternational Security Assistance Forces were the territory of the Insurgents and Davis felt they would remain so.

The local Afghan government is inept and the Afghan military have no desire to confront the Taliban Insurgents and in some cases actually collude with the terrorists. Americans in country have little trust, confidence and respect for Afghanis because they lack the resolve to take on the Insurgents that will kill them and their families once the Americans leave.
