America Under Siege | The Silent Majority’s Lazy Betrayal

Betrayal!

By LaLouisiane

There are many things that hurt us in life. People are flawed by their very nature. We’ve all been hurt, it starts early in life. A best friend who decided to be someone else’s best friend in kindergarten. A sibling who did not share with us. A parent who spoke harshly and hurt our feelings. As we grow, we discover that someone in our school has stolen from us. Or someone told a lie about us. We discover that some people cheat on tests.

One especially awful scenario, you discover that the significant other who promised you good things lied to you. You are left with a broken heart. The list continues to grow throughout life. People that we thought we could trust turn out to be untrustworthy. Jealousy, greed, pride, lies, cheating—all these things can hurt us. I think the worst of the hurtful things we can experience is betrayal.

Betrayal seems worse because someone who knows and understands what they are doing and who knows and understands the negative impact it will have…intentionally does evil toward us anyway. A President who says one thing and yet constantly does another. A President and Congress who flagrantly show their disdain for the Constitution and the laws of the country we love. The missing people in Wisconsin have betrayed the trust of the people of Wisconsin. The missing teachers in Wisconsin have betrayed the students and the parents who pay their salaries.

There is another kind of betrayal, the “Lazy Betrayal.” I was part of the “Silent Majority.” I didn’t care for politics. I voted, and I tried to do some research and decide on the best person for the job…but I did not put a LOT of time into it. I did not watch debates, and most of the time, I refused to watch the ads and commercials of people who were running for office. I shouldn’t have.

I betrayed my daddy who fought in World War II for freedom and liberty for all Americans. I could not be bothered with dirty, nasty politics. I betrayed my stepfather who served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. I betrayed my husband who served in Vietnam. I have betrayed all the troops who served because I did not do my part here at home. I have betrayed my country and my children and my children’s children.

I have not put forth the effort to be sure that the votes of our troops are counted. I have not been informed enough or active enough to ensure that those who serve and risk their lives do so only because the politicians we have serving here are the very best we have to offer. This was a “Lazy Betrayal” done through my own ignorance and my laziness to get involved and informed.

I was a part of the “Silent Majority,” and I was lazy. I was secure in the life that so many fought for me to have. Everything was great here—in America. Nothing bad could happen here. I was ignorant, lazy and silent. I will be silent no more.

I realize now that I have a responsibility to be an American. I have a responsibility to my country and my countrymen. I have a responsibility to my neighbors, my family, and society. I have a responsibility to all the children of this great country and indeed to all the generations to come after. I have a sacred responsibility to my children and grand children. As God is my witness… I will do my best to guard the sacred trust of this great country from this day forward.

It’s bad to betray your country. It’s worse to betray your God. Bad to betray your parents and ancestors who fought for this country. Bad to betray ourselves. Bad to betray our neighbors. Unforgivable to betray our children and grand children. Totally and completely, unforgivable. God help me, I won’t betray them anymore.
