Pelosi: Need To Address “Fairness” Of “Ownership and Equity” In US
“We’re talking about addressing the disparity of income where the wealthy people continue to get wealthier and some other people are falling out of the middle class when we want to bring many more people into the middle class. But that disparity is not just about wages alone, that disparity is about ownership and equity. It’s all about fairness in our country,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said to the United Steelworkers on Monday. Pelosi: “If Someone Punches You, You Punch Them Right Back”
Michael Brown of Newsradio 850 KOA says this:
This clip represents the fundamental problem with liberal Democrats like Nancy Pelosi. They believe America is supposed to be a country of equality of outcomes, not equality of opportunity. When I first read this story on the radio Monday night I had not yet seen the video of the Speaker making these comments. Watching it infuriates me even more.
This attitude – and belief – is a genuine threat to the Republic and the Constitution.
Speaker Pelosi and others like her believe the opportunity to make money or succeed is a zero sum game. They believe that for someone to win (i.e. make money) someone must lose (i.e. not make money or have their money taken away). Wealth is not a zero sum game. Just because I make X amount of money per year does not mean that someone makes less because I make more.
Even more frightening is how Speaker Pelosi suggests her equation should work – by brute government force. She advocates government equalizing ownership and equity. What does that mean? When she says there is disparity of income, ownership and equity, she is saying that if you own too much the government must equalize that ownership.
Let that sink in.
If you own too much, the government should step in and equalize ownership. Equity. Not equity in opportunity, but equality in ownership.
It gets better worse. She thinks America needs to be “fair.” Life isn’t fair. Never has been, never will be. We are nation of laws, governed by the rule of law, not fairness. Do we really want the government (which is not some abstract organization but comprised of people like Nancy Pelosi) determining what is fair? We should all try to play fair, work fair, be fair, but we are not governed by fairness and I certainly don’t want the government making a determination of what is fair for me or you.
Look around your home or workplace. What are you willing to give up to someone else to make life more “fair” for them. Then, look at your neighbor’s workplace or home and see what you want from them to make life more fair for you. Now imagine the government, the Nancy Pelosi’s of the world, making that determination for you.
That’s a sick thought, huh?
Something in the Ten Commandments about not coveting….oh, but can’t look to those for guidance, huh? Wouldn’t be “fair” to those who don’t believe in the Ten Commandments.
Nancy Pelosi and her husband are millionaires. God bless them for that. But as long as she’s making these kinds of pronouncements, let’s start with their wealth. Share it, Nancy. Send me a check for a $1,000,000 and we’ll call it fair.
Oh, but then how much will you want from me?
